Professor Wendy Cross

Professor Wendy Cross’ career has spanned many years in nursing, nursing research and nurse education. She has contributed to professional, managerial and administrative elements of nursing over that time. Wendy has been awarded numerous research and teaching grants. She has extensive experience in a range of nursing and management activities.

Since April 2002, she was employed in a senior executive role at Southern Health and her roles encompassed practice development, clinical governance, policy and procedure development, performance management and appraisal, workforce planning and numerous other activities.

In February 2007, she joined Monash University, School of Nursing and Midwifery with a focus on mental health nursing research and has since been appointed as Head, School of Nursing and Midwifery.

Wendy has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Advanced Nursing from Lincoln Institute of Health Sciences, a Master of Education by research (Ed Psych) from Monash University and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of NSW.

Wendy’s primary research interests include mental health and mental health nursing, clinical supervision, practice development, workplace learning, and broad based research methods including both quantitative and qualitative paradigms. She is currently involved in funded research projects on early psychosis, clinical supervision, evaluation of mental health services and workplace learning. Current position: Head, School of Nursing and Midwifery, Monash University.

Denise Heinjus

Denise has been the Executive Director of Nursing and Allied Health Services at Melbourne Health for the past four and a half years. She trained as a general nurse at Albury Base Hospital and as a midwife at Preston and Northcote Community Hospital in Melbourne. Denise has a strong background working in rural health (Greater Murray Area Health Service) in the development and management of community-based health services.

Denise has a Graduate Certificate in Management and a Masters (Honours) in Health Science Management. Prior to moving to Vic from NSW in 2005, Denise’s previous positions include Area Director of Nursing and Midwifery at the Northern Sydney Central Coast Health Service and a similar position in Illawarra Area Health Service with responsibility for clinical governance, disaster management and health service planning.
