Geelong NMHP Champions of 2016!
The NMHP held its final ‘NMHP Champion’ training event for 2016 at Simonds Stadium Geelong on Friday 21st October. The event was opened by Christine Couzens MP, Member for Geelong, who announced the Victorian State Government’s commitment to permanently fund the NMHP from March 2017. The event attracted over 50 nurses and midwives from a variety of health services and specialty departments in the Barwon region, extending down through the surf coast.
There was great enthusiasm in the room, which included professionals ranging from undergraduate students through to senior colleagues in leadership and management roles within their respective health services. Each brought with them a wealth of unique knowledge and experience and a strong desire to learn more about; the NMHP, self-care and how to support colleagues in need of a helping hand when experiencing a unique and challenging period in their life or with an established health issue.
Participants also took part in two separate self-care activities, provided by Jane Robotham and Sam Eddy from Open Change Workplace Wellness Programs. These sessions were designed to promote nurses and midwives own health with easy take away messages to replicate with colleagues, family and friends. Nurses and midwives demonstrated compassion and understanding of how to better support themselves and their colleagues. The NMHP values the reciprocity of our Champions which we know will be transported back to the various workplaces, through promotion of better health outcomes for our nursing and midwifery profession.
The NMHP thanks our newly trained ‘Geelong Champions’ for becoming beacons of light for their nursing and midwifery profession.
